In collaboration with MIT’s Synthetic Intelligence Lab, one of BSF’s focus areas is developing nanotechnologies for both treatment solutions and to drive new brain science research.
This research focuses on integrative analysis of cell types in the brain, via single-cell robotics.
- Goal: Derive & classify a list of cell types by physiological, geometric & molecular parameters.
- Approach: Develop scalable nanoscale-resolution tags & nanoscopes to map brain circuits, leading to:
- Automated sectioning and staining for proteins, and
- RNA for integrative molecular and anatomical mapping.
The end goal is whole-brain-circuit neural recording and imaging by means of microfabricated, electronic, and computational methods for analyzing the neural dynamics of entire brain circuits from sensation to emotion to decision making to action.
